I was asked to deliver an advanced design system while designing screens for one of the three apps in the project. To put everything into perspective, this project consists of 3 apps which are made for doctors, patients and researchers. Each has 600+ screens which require unique UI patterns without breaking the consistency among the apps.
The solution was to create a global design system that feeds three UI libraries dedicated to apps. All styles (aka. Atoms&Molecules) were defined in the global system, and all designers were free to create unique patterns in their library without risk of breaking the system.
This advanced structure allowed us to create 3 visually consistent apps which serve completely different purposes. Although, we were still able to perform global design updates which would automatically update 1500 artboards within a minute.
